When recovery is available, people often notice something important: more space between what happens around them and how they respond to it.
A difficult conversation may still feel difficult, but it doesn’t derail the entire day. An unexpected challenge may still create stress, but the body finds its footing more quickly afterward. Instead of becoming consumed by every demand, there is a greater sense of steadiness, adaptability and choice.
Creating More Space Between Stress and Reaction
Many people assume emotional regulation comes from trying harder, thinking differently, or exerting more control over their reactions.
