TRAUMA THERAPY

TRAUMA DEFINED

It does not discriminate and is pervasive throughout the world. Trauma is the response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel the full range of emotions and experiences.

There is no cure for trauma, nor any quick fixes for the suffering associated with them. But there is hope.

A wide range of effective therapies exist and access to them is widespread. Trauma survivors are best served by working with a therapist or therapy that is trauma-focused or trauma-informed.

Therapies for Trauma

Unyte-iLs uses a clinically based non-invasive approach to help “train” people to be able to independently and consistently calm their physiological and emotional state, thereby shifting themselves from a state of often constant “threat or fear”, to a state of “safety and calm.”

This is in part achieved by reducing an individual’s stress responses to the world around them, by helping them to better process and integrate their sensory experiences, including interactions with others. Additionally, the reduction of real auditory prevents sensory “overload” and helps to improve awareness, attention, cognition, balance and body organization.

“I’ve spent a lifetime running away from or avoiding my mind. To have the gift of quietness, to have the gift of enjoying my mind and being present with my mind is truly amazing.”

– Ewan

Safe and Sound Protocol

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), developed by world-renowned scientist Dr. Stephen Porges and Unyte-iLs’ Chief Scientific Advisor, uses the auditory system and its direct connection to the nervous system to restore the brain and body’s ability to find states of calm, safety, and regulation.

The SSP is designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience. By calming the physiological and emotional state, the door is opened for improved communication and more successful therapy.

This research-based therapy shows significant results in just five days in the following areas:

  • Social and emotional difficulties
  • Auditory sensitivities
  • Anxiety and trauma related challenges
  • Inattention
  • Stressors that impact social engagement

The SSP is delivered as a 5-hour auditory intervention program that is guided and supported by a trained professional.

As SSP is an intervention program to ‘reset’ or ‘reboot’ the nervous system, it is generally integrated as a supporting or ‘adjunct’ therapy, and has proven that further therapy is enhanced or even accelerated.

Focus Home Program

Focus System programs provide simultaneous multisensory input to help develop new and reinforce existing pathways governing organization of the body and brain function. Combining therapeutic music, movement activities, and later on, cognitive activities, develops a foundation that may never have been fully developed or was interrupted due to an event.

Especially in younger people and those recovering from injury, this staged approach develops a foundation that may never have been fully developed or was interrupted due to an event. With appropriate stimulation, the brain’s ability to successfully process and retain information leads to better academic outcomes. In addition, there is an increased ability to control impulses, self-regulate behavior and engage appropriately with others.
