iLs is often used as a tool to help those on the autism spectrum become better at processing sensory information. As the ability to process the world around us improves, so does our ability to regulate emotions, manage social situations, and communicate effectively.

iLs Home Program

iLs programs are based on the principle of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to develop new neural pathways in response to specific stimulation.  iLs may be implemented on its own or in conjunction with a range of other therapies (e.g. ABA, Floortime, DRI) to help those on the autism spectrum.

While iLs is not complicated to implement at home, it does require commitment, planning and some guidance. iLs Programs are typically 30-60 minutes in length, 2-5 times per week over a 2-6 month period. To ensure you have a successful experience, instruction and supervision are included in the price of the program.

  • Some things I have noted and feel are due to the program are 1. The ability to go on amusement rides, 2.down slides in the playground, 3.coordinated to ride his bike 4.and scooter,5. almost fully potty trained, 6. Sleeping better at night, and so much more!   • The new school year is better than ever before, especially in the mornings, which we have had trouble with for years. Jakeb is a different kid after the Focus System. I only wish we would have found it sooner. No crashing, no clumsiness, less shouting, less tics, and almost no meltdowns. My heart is soaring!!! We are thinking of renting to own to continue doing other programs. So grateful and have been telling everyone I know that could benefit from it to use it!!! So thrilled! And he is so much more confident as we praise him so often now for self control! Best thing that ever happened to us!

Supporting Research

In 2012 an independent, non-profit research group conducted a survey with therapists who had used iLs with over 1300 children on the autism spectrum in order to determine areas of efficacy.  The complete study is below and the full survey may be found on the Research page.

The Spiral Foundation of Boston, MA conducted a controlled study of 18 children diagnosed with autism. Significant improvement was shown in the areas of social skills and emotional regulation; quantity and quality of atypical and problem behaviors including behavior during treatment; number and severity of autistic behaviors; and overall functional adaptive behavior skills; visual, fine and gross motor. The Science & Research Underlying iLs

iLs is a type of exercise which requires the brain to process information from different sources at the same time. As you move through an iLs program, the amount, and type, of information is very gradually increased.  We start with music and movement, and then integrate language and cognitive tasks.  The result is that you gain confidence as you acquire new skills, and you are also challenged to improve and to meet the new levels of difficulty.  As you continue this training process, your fundamental ability to process information improves.
