Mother’s Guide Through Autism: Soothe Your Child’s Nervous System with Safe and Sound Protocol

“When we challenge an already over-challenged nervous system, we create overwhelm, or there’s more potential for overwhelm, and a dysregulated person is less able to learn new skills,” says Kelly Beins, OTR/L, in this podcast. “We know that now. This is in Polyvagal Theory, it’s in neuroscience, where the more activation you have in the nervous system, the less integration you have, and so you’re less able to access the multiple pathways and the multisensory pathways that are needed to build new skills. The [Safe and Sound Protocol] targets regulation as a foundation to build the other skills.

Unyte is excited to be featured on Mother’s Guide Through Autism, a podcast created to inspire, support, and build community for mothers raising children with autism. Mother’s Guide Through Autism is hosted by Brigitte Shipman, an author, speaker, and certified Martha Beck Life Coach with a master’s degree in education.

Representing Unyte is Kelly Beins, OTR/L. Kelly is a sensory parent and seasoned occupational therapist with over 28 years of clinical experience, including 18 years of certification in sensory integration. In this episode, Kelly introduces Polyvagal Theory to listeners, and delves into how this research by Dr. Stephen Porges’ revolutionized the way we view the body’s response to stress, as well as how it can be applied therapeutically to help a wide range of people, including children with autism.

Tune into this episode to discover how the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) can help children with sensory processing and emotional regulation.
