The Music of the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) includes three pathways, or levels of filtration, and five playlists including vocal and non-vocal music, allowing providers to create a customized experience of the SSP, guided by a client’s needs, presentation, and desired outcomes.
What are the SSP Pathways?
The music of the SSP has been filtered through a patented, evidence-based algorithm that highlights specific sound frequencies that help regulate the autonomic nervous system and stimulate the vagus nerve.
The SSP is made up of three pathways: SSP Connect, SSP Core and SSP Balance, which offer three levels of filtration.
SSP CONNECT
SSP Connect engages the nervous system with full-spectrum music without any filtration or modification.
SSP Connect features full-spectrum music without any filtration. Many SSP providers start clients with this pathway to assess their sensitivity to listening, to create familiarity and expectancy in the nervous system, enhance overall readiness for the SSP, and gently introduce them to the music.
SSP CORE
SSP Core retunes the nervous system back to a place of safety with progressively and dynamically filtered music.
SSP Core is the strongest and potentially most therapeutic pathway, progressing dynamically throughout each hour of listening. The music is filtered through Dr. Stephen Porges’ patented, evidence-based algorithm, designed to shift the autonomic nervous system out of a state of defense and back to a place of felt safety.
SSP BALANCE
SSP Balance maintains and extends the benefits with lighter filtration than SSP Core.
After completing the SSP Core, clients often enjoy listening to SSP Balance. SSP Balance features lighter filtration that does not progress dynamically, and can be used to help continue or extend the benefits of SSP Core.
